FOND DU LAC — Get in the holiday spirit with the Fond du Lac Symphonic Band’s annual Cathedral Concert or stop by the Christmas in the Village event in downtown Ripon.
Non-holiday events include Pancake Day fundraisers, skyscraper concerts, screenings of “A Tale of Alabama,” and more, so you’re sure to find the entertainment that’s right for you.
Here are five can’t-miss events happening in your community this week.
1. Annual Cathedral Concert with Symphonic Band is November 12th
The Fond du Lac Symphony Orchestra will hold its 47th annual Cathedral Concert at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral, 51 W. Division St., Fond du Lac, on Nov. 12 at 3 p.m. The concert has been held every November since his 1976, except for 2020.
The band will be directed by Dr. Evan Chancellor and conducted by Associate Conductor Jill Wagner.
According to Dr. Rector, “The program for the upcoming fall Cathedral Concert is centered around the idea of ’heartsongs,’ music that speaks of holiness in its various aspects. The program includes David Maslanka’s “Heart Songs,” a gentle three-movement piece influenced by J.S. Bach’s chorales, “Silent Night,” creatively harmonized by jazz arranger Sammy Nestico, and a joyful piece by Kevin Day. Includes “All the Day Long.” Setting for the hymn “Blessed Assurance.” ”
Several other songs are on the program, and the concert ends with the band singing John Rutter’s “The Lord Bless You and Keep You.”
The concert will be preceded by a 30-minute organ recital by Ken Hill, who recently retired from Hope Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac.
Admission is free, but donations are accepted.

2. Ripon’s holiday season begins with Christmas in the Village
Ripon will kick off the holiday season with Christmas in the Village on November 10th and 11th in the downtown area.
The Ripon Fire Department will be giving Santa a ride on Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. The route begins on Watson Street and heads to the Village Green, where the bandstand decorations are lit up.
The Nov. 11 event includes another opportunity to say hello to Santa on the Village Green from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. An ice carving demonstration will be held at The Square from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Reindeer live on the Village Green from noon to 4 p.m. Carriage rides from 2pm to 4pm Carriage rides begin and end at the corner of Watson Street and West Fond du Lac Street.

3. Support youth support and social service through Pancake Day
The North Fond du Lac Optimist Club will hold its 52nd annual Pancake Day on November 11th.
Meals will be served from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and available for pickup at the Friendship Learning Center, 1098 Prospect Avenue in North Fond du Lac.
Cost is $5 in advance for club members and $6 at the door. Children 5 and under are free.
The group supports youth, youth organizations, parks and other community service projects, including last year’s first “Light Up the Park” event.
4. Bluegrass band Damn Tall Buildings stops by Green Lake
Damn Tall Buildings will be performed at the historic Thrasher Opera House on November 11th at 7:30 p.m. A bluegrass band based in Brooklyn.
Band members are Avery Balotta (violin, vocals), Max Capistran (guitar, banjo, vocals), and Sasha Dubrk (upright bass, vocals). The band coined the term “guerrilla roots” to describe their sound, which “repurposed early 20th century Americana/bluegrass music for a modern audience.”

5. Thelma’s ‘A Tale of Alabama’ will be screened on November 16th
The next film in the Thelma film series is “A Tale of Alabama.” It will be shown at the Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts, 51 Sheboygan Street, Fond du Lac, on November 16 at 7 p.m.
The film follows six-year-old Scout Finch (Mary Badham) and her older brother Jem (Philip Alford), who live in sleepy Maycomb, Alabama, and spend much of their time with their friend Dill (John Meghna). , depicts him spying on them as they live in seclusion. Mysterious neighbor Boo Radley (Robert Duvall). Atticus (Gregory Peck), a widowed father and respected lawyer, is forced to defend a black man, Tom Robinson (Brock Peters), against a trumped-up rape charge, but the trial and the events surrounding it… Children will be exposed to the evils of racism and stereotyping.
A cash bar and snacks are also available for purchase. Screenings are open to all ages. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Advance tickets can be purchased at thelmaarts.org or on the day of the event.
