Candyland, other local events kick off the holiday season

Next week will be a busy week in Andalusia as the holiday season begins. Several events are planned throughout the week, including the start of holiday favorite Christmas at Candyland.
The week begins with a holiday concert and tree lighting at LBW Community College on Tuesday, November 28th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Special performances include LBW Ensemble, Andalusia Elementary School Show Choir, Covington County Choir, and Lower Alabama Community Choir.
The Andalusia Regional Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Christmas Parade on Thursday, November 30th from 6 p.m. The theme of this year’s parade is “It’s Christmas in Candyland.”
The first weekend in December will be a busy one with several community activities scheduled.
At 9 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 1, a ribbon cutting will be held on the plaza to officially open Candyland’s 10th anniversary of Christmas. Candyland will be open from 5pm to 7pm and there will be a Meet His Mickey and Minnie event from 5pm to 7pm. Live music begins at 7 p.m. at Candyland Stage in Springdale.
The first full day of Candyland will be held on Saturday, December 2nd from 1pm to 9pm. Look out for the Grinch. A meet-and-greet with Santa is scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m., and Elsa from 4 to 6 p.m.The Characters in Candyland show is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Candyland will be open on Sunday, December 3rd from 1pm to 5pm. A meet and greet with Santa is scheduled for 2 to 5 p.m., and a meet and greet with Elsa is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. The AES Show Choir will be at 3 p.m., followed by the Characters in Candyland show at 4 p.m.
First Baptist Church of Andalusia will host a drive-thru Nativity “Bethlehem Evening” every Friday, Dec. 1, Saturday, Dec. 2, and Sunday, Dec. 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. For more information, call the church at 334-222-5151.
The Little Britches Rodeo will be held Saturday, Dec. 2 and Sunday, Dec. 3 at the Covington Arena. Admission is free.
The Andalusia Pilot Club will hold its annual Pancake and Sausage Breakfast on Saturday, Dec. 2 from 5:30 a.m. to noon at the Kiwanis Community Center. Tickets are $10 per ticket for All You Can Eat per person and can be purchased at the counter, CCB Community Bank, Andalusia Chamber of Commerce, or through members of the Pilot His Club. The Pilot Club’s annual Tour of Homes event will be held on Sunday, Dec. 3 from 1 to 4:30 p.m., and this year’s lineup includes five homes. Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased at CCB Community Bank or the Andalusia Chamber of Commerce. Ticket holders will receive refreshments at Blue Bird Coffee Company.
