The Fiji Police Force and faith-based organizations are jointly calling on parents to break their silence on pressing social issues affecting the nation.
They emphasize the importance of having open conversations with children about topics such as substance abuse, criminal behavior, and sexual offenses and their effects.
Acting Deputy Police Commissioner Sakeo Raikachi emphasizes that parents have an important role to play in starting conversations with their children about these pressing issues.
“Spend more time with your kids. Spend more time with your kids. Minimize going out. Other jobs, drinking, grog, meeting other women, or all of those things.” Spend more time with your children.”
Fiji Council of Churches General Secretary Reverend Simione Tugi pointed out the importance of addressing these issues at the grassroots level.
“Young people are suffering and if we don’t do something now, our future is not going to look very promising. We are not taking serious things seriously.”
Police have also made it clear that it is urgent to address recent cases of children being directly or indirectly involved in drug trafficking.
They emphasize the need for a comprehensive societal approach to addressing these issues.
