Brevard County investigators are trying to determine why a woman was on the tracks before she was struck and killed by a Brightline train.
Less than a month after Brightline launched its new high-speed rail service between Orlando and Miami, this is the first fatal crash involving a Brightline train in central Florida.
Melbourne Police said the woman was found dead near the railroad tracks at Aurora Road and Cypress Avenue.
Investigators have not released the woman’s name, but the area is known to be frequented by people experiencing homelessness, so people living nearby believe she may have been a transient. I’m guessing there is.
No one on the train was injured, and police are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
Private universities in Florida will now be required to require students, faculty and staff to use restroom facilities that correspond to the gender assigned at birth.
The Florida Board of Education voted Wednesday to extend rules already in place in the state’s K-12 public schools and prisons to private colleges.
The restrictions go into effect at government buildings across the state starting July 1 under a law signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis that prohibits transgender people from using restrooms and locker rooms that correspond with their gender identity. There is.
This restriction also applies to university-run student residences.
Private universities have until April 1, 2024 to certify compliance with the law to the state.
