Registration is now open for Avondale’s 10th Annual Veterans Day 5k Run/Walk and Ceremony.
The run, held in partnership with the City of Avondale at Estrella Mountain Community College, 3000 N. Dysart Road, benefits veterans who face financial barriers to education. .
The city’s parks and recreation, police and fire departments will be on site to provide activities for residents. The event will be held on Saturday, November 11th at 8am.
Proceeds from the Vet Fun Run will benefit Dr. Ernest Lara and the EMCC Veterans Scholarship Fund.
This scholarship supports veterans attending Mount Estrella who may face financial hardship in continuing or completing their education. Student veterans face an increased risk of poverty and homelessness. Also, her GI Bill after 911 only covers her 36 months of education.
“Veterans often experience challenges and difficulties as they transition from military to civilian life,” said U.S. Army Veteran Nathan Kelly, EMCC’s Veterans Services Division Manager, in a press release. “It’s important that we can provide support when and where we need it.”
A local gym will host four exercise stations during the 5K. The run will be followed by a Warrior’s Breakfast hosted by Filibert’s and Dutch Brothers for all participants.
A Veterans Day ceremony will then be held in Avondale.
After the activity, tickets are also available for a VIP experience that includes a catered brunch with drinks tasting by 8-Bit Aleworks.
Registration for the event costs $11.11 for veterans and military personnel, $25 for general registration, and a minimum donation of $50 for the VIP experience.
