The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology’s three journals (Journal of Biological Chemistry, Journal of Lipid Research, and Molecular & Cellular Proteomics) are a big part of the society, so it’s no surprise that ASBMB’s Discover BMB 2024 It will take center stage. The annual meeting will be held March 23-26 in San Antonio. Here we provide a short overview of the activities planned by the journal’s editors.
Plenary Session: Metabolism and Disease
alex toker and lydia finley
Chair: Alex Toker, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School
Metabolic mechanisms are prominent in health and disease. Lydia Finley from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center will speak at a plenary session examining new trends and insights into metabolic pathways that determine cellular success. Finley’s lab studies how changes in metabolite availability shape the chromatin landscape and influence the gene expression programs that control cell survival, growth, and differentiation.
Biochemistry Journal Symposium
Philip A. Cole
Chair: Philip A. Cole, Harvard University
Since 1905, the JBC has served as a primary point of contact for scientists from a variety of fields to share mechanistic insights into the molecular and cellular basis of biological processes. Join his JBC editors for a special symposium featuring the hottest topics at the forefront of the field today, chaired by his JBC associate editor Phil Cole from Harvard University.
The Power and Diversity of Proteomics: Symposium on Molecular & Cellular Proteomics
al burlingame
Chair: Al Burlingame, University of California, San Francisco
Join us for a special symposium on current issues in the development and application of proteomics in basic and translational research, hosted by MCP Editor-in-Chief Al Burlingame from the University of California, San Francisco. Explore cutting-edge techniques used to profile bacterial proteomes, map neuronal excitatory domains, understand antigen presentation, and disentangle complex cellular hierarchies.
Lipidomics: Symposium presented by the Journal of Lipid Research
Han Xianlin
Chair: Han Xianlin
JLR Associate Editor Xianlin Han, of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, will chair a symposium on lipidomics as a bridge to biological and medical research. Hear five of his leading experts at the forefront of genomics, proteomics, and lipidomics link lipid metabolism and function to insights into cardiometabolic disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and more.
