Apple’s App Store marketplace is creating even more competition for you to get deals, for businesses to get deals, and for everything else.
Apple is piloting a feature called “Conditional Pricing,” which it plans to roll out to developers “in the coming months.” This allows developers to “attract and retain subscribers” by “allowing them to offer discounted subscription prices as long as they actively sign up their customers for another subscription.” and is being marketed as a way to reshape competition on the App Store and encourage user loyalty. ” writes Apple. Posting to the Apple Developer Website.
Apple didn’t give a specific example, but if you pay for a subscription to a photo editing app, for example, another photo editing app could see that and lower the subscription price for that app specifically for you. Imagine that there is sex. This is to force a switch. “Can be used for subscriptions from one developer or two different developers,” Apple writes. This means businesses can do this within their own apps – when you buy a subscription to a photo editing app, you get a subscription to that video editing app. For example, competitors’ apps as well.
“If you’re interested in implementing conditional pricing in your apps, start planning now and sign up to be notified when details are announced in January,” Apple writes.
So if in a few weeks you start seeing deals that your friends haven’t seen, don’t worry. You’re just being invited, but you’re closer than you were before.
