In addition to updates to iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS, Apple has rolled out the latest version of tvOS. The main change is a redesign of the core Apple TV app.
Displays a sidebar that combines content from Apple’s own services (like Apple TV+, MLS Season Pass, and the store where users can buy and rent popular movies) with access to third-party channels and apps like Disney+ and Max will be done. Apple appears to be aiming to improve navigation and discoverability without deviating too much from the industry-standard tile viewing format on the homepage.
Living room devices (i.e. Apple TV hardware and apps of the same name on smart TVs and other devices) include profiles in the sidebar. Apple says this will allow users to quickly switch to see more personalized recommendations throughout the app and in the Next section. Meanwhile, Watch Now has been rebranded to Home.
The Store tab in the Apple TV app is where you go to buy or rent movies and TV shows. Starting today, the iTunes Movies and TV Shows app on Apple TV 4K and HD devices will be able to redirect users to the Store tab in their Apple TV app to search and manage their purchases. The same applies to the iTunes Store app on iPhone and iPad.
Meanwhile, you’ll be able to answer FaceTime calls directly on your Apple TV 4K device. Apple has also added support for FaceTime voice calls.
