The update for October 26th is as follows. This post was first published on October 24, 2023.
Apple just announced a special event for October 30th, and it’s very different from other events in recent months. Here’s why and what we’re hoping for.
It’s a virtual event
Apple is sending out invitations to its events, but unlike the press invitations to WWDC and the September iPhone event, this one is an invitation to “watch a special Apple Event online.” . Visit apple.com. ”
Therefore, anyone can participate, not just members of the press. In some cases, the press release will be followed by a pre-recorded keynote address that will be available for viewing at any time. However, this is different. You can also watch it later, but this has a set time.
And it begins at an unprecedented time
A feature of regular Apple events is that, regardless of where the event is held, it always takes place at a specific time, i.e. at 10 a.m. local. But this is different. Apple chose an evening timing of 5pm Pacific Time, or 8pm Eastern Time. Incidentally, in the UK this means midnight as British Summer Time ends and Greenwich Mean Time comes into force again. Does that mean there is some significance to that night? Must take a look.
What do we expect?
Another unusual thing is that Apple has already revealed the theme of the keynote, at least the main part of it: the Apple Mac. The Apple event page will display an Apple logo confirming the event, animated into a cute version of the Apple Mac Finder window. Look, it’s cool.
So we know Mac is the headline act. This came as a surprise to many who thought there would be no more devices announced this year, or at most nothing groundbreaking.

terrifyingly fast
It’s not just because the event takes place just before Halloween (in fact, thanks to the time difference, it actually takes place during Halloween in the UK). No, this tagline is clearly making fun of the new device’s speed.
Is it M3?
I mean, it should be, shouldn’t it be? Several analysts claim the M3 chip won’t arrive until next year. Respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously said there would be no more Apple-related products in 2023, but he has now reversed course.new Post to X, Kuo said: I previously predicted that a launch this year is unlikely due to limited shipments in Q4 2023 (from a total of 400,000 units to less than 500,000 units). ”
It wasn’t that the processors weren’t ready, they just weren’t plentiful. Kuo continued: “If new MBPs are launched in November-December, the supply shortage will continue until the first quarter of 2024 unless demand weakens.”
If Kuo is right, this is big news, and Apple will say that the M3 will indeed be blazingly fast.
MacBook Pro release date
If Kuo is correct, we expect the new MacBook Pro to hit stores around Friday, November 10th.
what else?
The iMac has been waiting for an update for over two years, so I think there’s a good chance we’ll see a new 24-inch desktop Mac. I think it will look the same as the current model, although perhaps with a few different colors. It will be powered by an M2 processor, and will probably have the option of an M2 Pro chip instead.
Maybe there’s an iPad too? I think that’s possible, but Apple would want to focus on his Mac with this special event.
Updated on October 25th. I’m not saying I’m a fan of conspiracy theories, but life isn’t always about chance. His Apple keynote yesterday was going to be a carefully timed one. And it may have been done on purpose, on the same day a rival chipmaker announced its own news.
Qualcomm announced new processors for computers, smartphones, earphones and more at its annual Snapdragon Summit event. One of the important announcements is his Snapdragon X Elite processor for PC. CEO Cristiano Amon promised that the new CPU core, Oryon, would be extremely fast. He said that CPUs with 4nm designs are showing great benchmarks. Snapdragon X Elite can deliver a single core score of 3,227. Is that okay? That’s really true. According to Qualcomm, Apple’s current fastest chip, the Apple M2 Max, has an equivalent score of 2,841.
There’s more good news. Achieve this score with lower power consumption. Qualcomm says it “matches the peak performance of competitors with 30% less power.” The company also said it outperforms rival processor Intel Core i9-13980HX by a small margin. Intel’s core score is 3,192, so Oryon’s number of 3,227 is only 1% faster. However, the power consumption is significantly reduced by he 70%.
Perhaps Apple wants to make sure Qualcomm’s stats lead the world for only a few days so it can announce its own chips with faster benchmarks next Monday night. Probably.
Updated on October 26th. Rumors continue to fly about what will be revealed at Apple’s special event.in New post on XMing-Chi Kuo now seems to fully agree with the idea that this event is all about the M3 processor, further amplifying the comments quoted above.
Kuo believes M2 was perceived as underwhelming due to “limited upgrades to M2’s computing power.”
It’s true that the transition from Intel chips to Apple Silicon with the A1 processor ushered in a new era of much faster performance and surprisingly improved battery life. And it’s true that Apple was clear that we shouldn’t expect that kind of incremental change every year, and honestly, most people don’t need that level of increase every year. In other words, the M2 may not have been able to offer as many impressive upgrades as the M1.
Kuo suggests that Apple is releasing the M3 now to counter this perception, with many expecting it to be released in 2024. Kuo’s tweet read, “As far as I know, Apple believes the significant decline in MacBook shipments in 2023 is primarily due to limited M2 computing power upgrades. , I think that’s why Apple prefers to launch the M3 series MacBook Pro even when production is still low, rather than continuing to ship the M2 series MacBook Pro. In theory, the M3 is capable of It should improve our capabilities even more significantly.”
That’s natural. If Apple can convince people that the M3 is what they’ve been waiting for, they’ll buy it. But Kuo has other ideas.
“However, if the M3 is not able to increase MacBook shipments, I think it is more likely that a completely new design MacBook Pro will be released in 2025.” We may also consider introducing more affordable MacBook models (though we haven’t decided yet), with a target of 8 million to 10 million units or more.”
It’s also interesting that the new MacBooks come at a lower price. Does it have an M3 or M4 chip inside? Apple’s transparent naming policy makes it difficult to hide the fact that it has last year’s chip inside. This was a problem for the recently released 15-inch MacBook Air with his M2 processor last year. It’s not that the M2 isn’t up to the task. That’s true, but again, it’s a matter of perception.
