Postgame notes: App State 48, Southern Miss 38.
App State snapped its losing streak at two, won its fourth game of the year, and moved to 2-2 in Sun Belt Conference play.
The Mountaineers are 3-1 at The Rock this year. Since moving to FBS in 2014, their 51-10 record (.836 percent) in home games is the seventh-best record among all FBS teams (Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Georgia, (after Oklahoma and Oregon).
App State won for the ninth consecutive year at Homecoming, improving its all-time Homecoming record to 48-13-2.
Kidd Brewer Stadium had a crowd of 32,601, the ninth-highest attendance in the stadium’s history.
App State defeated Southern Miss State for the first time after losing to Mississippi State in both 1937 and 2014.
This was the fifth game in a row, and the sixth of the last seven, that was decided in the closing minutes. A fumble by the Mountaineers with 14 seconds remaining was recovered by the home team before the Mountaineers scored their fourth touchdown with eight seconds left, sealing the two-score victory.

The Mountaineers’ offense tallied a season-high 48 points and a season-high 571 total yards, including 34 points and 301 yards in the second half alone.
christian horn He caught a career-high eight passes for a career-high 165 yards and two touchdowns. His score was an integral part of his final 12 minutes of the fourth quarter as App State turned a 10-point deficit into a 10-point victory.
Bouncing back from two turnovers in the first half, Joey Aguilar He finished the game with a career-high 391 passing yards and tied a career-high with four passing touchdowns while completing 23 of 33 passes.
Aguilar has scored multiple passing TDs in all but one game this season and leads the Sun Belt with 20.
run back kanye roberts A week after gaining 109 yards in his first career start at Old Dominion, he rushed 13 times for 109 yards and a touchdown. Of his 109 yards against Southern Miss, 92 came in the fourth quarter, including 86 on back-to-back runs. He scored a 61-yard touchdown with 6:37 left in the game, giving the Mountaineers their first lead at 42-38.
