Uber drivers in the city staged a protest near their local office, demanding fair pay from the company.
Drivers from the ride-hailing app gathered near Uber’s ‘green light hub’ at Hove’s County Ground to demand action against the company’s ‘unfair pricing policies’ and ‘high ride fees’.
Demonstrators held placards reading “Uber is driving us into poverty” and “Fair distribution, fair pay” and urged people to sign a letter to Uber calling for action. .
The letter said the problems drivers face with “unfair fares” are “impacting our ability to maintain a decent living.”
Isaac Aydul, who has worked as an Uber driver in the city for five years, said the company charges high fees for each ride and that revenue has not kept pace with inflation.
He said: “Even though the cost of living, maintenance, fuel and insurance are increasing, revenue is decreasing. Five years ago I was earning more on the same trip than I am now. Ta.
āI earn up to 40% less than I used to for the same trip.ā

Ali Omar, another driver in the city, calculated that he had earned about Ā£50 after working almost all day yesterday.
“With all the money I make, how am I going to live in Brighton, which is one of the most expensive places in the country?” he said.
Other drivers say that even on a good day when their income is high, their paycheck is spent on petrol, car maintenance, taxes and national insurance before taking into account rent, mortgage and other bills. I explained that I was being bitten.
Omar also criticized Uber’s algorithm, which allows it to assign trips to passengers more than a mile away, even if there is a driver nearby.
“We’re seeing more scandals where people drive two miles to pick up passengers when they already have a driver. Where’s the logic in that? It uses more fuel, so it costs more.” he said.
Uber has been contacted for comment.
