DENVER — The co-founder of an app he created to help Colorado’s Spanish-speaking community get staff on demand is now setting his sights on helping qualified immigrants land jobs.
The Chamba app was created several years ago as a way for employers to recruit employees for different jobs.
“The best example I can give is Lyft, where you request a ride and a driver arrives. With a chamber, you request a worker and they arrive and are ready to work,” said Diego, the company’s co-founder.・Mr. Montemayor said. App.
Montemayor said he came up with the idea a few months ago to put eligible immigrants on the app so they could find jobs as quickly as possible.
He said the goal was made possible by the Biden administration’s extension and redesignation of TPS, or Temporary Protected Status, for Venezuelan migrants who arrive in the United States by July 31, 2023.
“This will get them back to work right away. We think it will help local businesses and we think it will help the local economy,” said John Ewing, a spokesman for the Denver Department of Human Services.
Montemayor agreed.
“They are enthusiastic, ready, and able to work, and we do that by connecting with them, sharing what we can do for them, sorting them out, and learning what we can do.” ,” Montemayor said.
The first step was to go to reception centers and shelters and look for people who were qualified and willing to work. Montemayor said that in his first visit, he and the Chamba Apps team were able to recruit 60 people to the platform who could work in various capacities.
“Bartenders, cooks, line cooks, movers, dishwashers, and when it comes to construction, jobs like construction and maintenance of paint rights are common. And when it comes to manufacturing, there are a lot of warehouse jobs. ” He said.
Similar to immigrants who were previously part of the app, some immigrants in the pilot will also be able to create a profile on the app and sign up from there.
