Imagine if you had the ability to delete apps from your account from any device. Google plans to offer that feature to Android users in the near future, as long as they use the same account on all their devices. Android users already had the option to install apps on multiple devices running under the same account.
However, future Google Play Store versions will allow you to both install and uninstall from devices linked to your account. The feature, called remote app installation, has been suggested to work across devices such as PCs, watches, TVs, and even cars. That probably means a car running on Android Auto. Once you get the Play Store 38.8 update on supported devices, Google will let you choose which apps to uninstall based on size, device, and more.
The feature hasn’t been officially rolled out yet, but the teaser gives a glimpse of how people can expect the uninstall tool to work. Google Accounts work across a variety of platforms, including Android, Android TV, ChromeOS, Android Auto, and WearOS. It makes sense to integrate all these devices if you are using the same account.
Apple has done this very well for years, allowing you to pair your Mac with an iOS or iPad device using wireless functionality. It would make a lot of sense for Google to introduce similar cross-device functionality, especially when people might find it difficult to remove apps from their Android consoles in cars or smart TVs.
In other Google news, the company will finally bring cookie blocking functionality to Chrome users in early 2024. Google’s privacy sandbox has been in the works for several years, and will be available to around 30 million users to test privacy features in January. More will be added later next year.
