ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Mother Road through Albuquerque is nearing its 100th anniversary, and ahead of Route 66’s grand 100th anniversary celebration, the city is celebrating today’s technology and road history. We’re looking for artists who can help bring this together. “Route 66 runs through the heart of our city,” said CABQ Arts and Culture Director Shell Sanchez.
Over the years, Route 66 has gone through many changes. Albuquerque he aims to celebrate his 100-year story of this historic route starting in 2025. To that end, the city is now seeking help to turn the past into an interactive experience through augmented reality. “I really want to hear from the communities that are creating these things what their visions and creative ideas are,” Sanchez said.
She says she hasn’t decided exactly what they’re looking for. “We overlay historic videos and historic photos of buildings. Through augmented reality, little signposts about history and important moments along Route 66 make it feel like they happened on the trip. So there’s a lot of things you can do with augmented reality,” Sanchez said.
Sanchez said the city would like designers, creators and artists to apply to create interactive applications that can be used on mobile phones and other devices. “Some of them are really big, huge, complex ideas. Some of them are a little bit more simple, so we’re giving ideas to the community and seeing how we can partner over the next two years. We will see if we can make some of these projects a reality,” Sanchez said. .
Its purpose is to educate, entertain and engage locals and visitors about the history of the area. “It feels like you’re in the present space, and through technology you can bring in the past and imagine the future. You can also imagine another version of today,” Sanchez said.
They want to create something by 2025. The deadline for augmented reality proposals is January 31, 2024. For more information, please visit his City of Albuquerque website.
