A man wanted in connection with a deadly shooting in Alameda County was arrested over the weekend outside a Walmart in Barstow, authorities said.
According to the Barstow Police Department, police received a call Saturday afternoon reporting that a suspect vehicle connected to a Northern California homicide had been spotted by an automatic license plate reader near the Walmart at 301 Montara Road.
Officers quickly found the vehicle, but no one was inside, authorities said.
“A few minutes later, officers arrested the suspect, Nicholas Pareveda, 38, of Alameda County, without incident as he attempted to leave the scene,” police said in a written statement.
Pareveda was arrested and his vehicle was towed as evidence, police added.
Pareveda was arrested on suspicion of murder and turned over to Alameda County law enforcement officials, according to San Bernardino County jail records.
According to Dublin Police Department officials, the fatal shooting happened on Friday, August 23rd at approximately 2:20 p.m. at an apartment in the 5000 block of Hacienda Drive in Dublin.
Police said in a statement that they found a 37-year-old male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said they are still investigating a motive for the killing and whether the suspect and victim knew each other.
