JENNINGS, Mo. (KPLC) – Sending kids to school in today’s world can be scary for parents, but schools in southwest Louisiana are focused on improving safety and keeping everyone safe. It makes me feel safe.
Jeff Davis Parish is one of many districts implementing new technology and policies as soon as next school year.
Schools in Jeff Davis Parish, like Calcasieu Parish, can apply to the Louisiana Department of Education’s Stronger Connections Program, which allows them to build fences and purchase weapon detectors for schools and athletic events. Admitted.
“This adds a layer and makes it a little bit tougher, and that’s what we want. We want to put up barriers, not make the schools soft,” Saputo said. John Hall said.
Hall said the bonds will be issued in preparation for the spring election and will also help fund a single entrance at some of the parish’s schools. If passed, these projects would begin next summer.
“Other projects we have coming up are Lake Arthur High School, Lake Arthur Elementary School, Wales High School and Wales Elementary School, and Wales Roanoke Middle School. All of those schools. , we are in the planning stages to create a single point of entry and a secure vestibule to house people with weapon detectors,” he said.
The school board recently voted to create a clear bag policy for sporting events starting next school year.
“Effective January 1st, we are asking all spectators to bring clear bags to our athletic events,” said School Board Superintendent Francis LeBlanc. Not only that, but we did a little extra for the safety of people coming from out of town.”
Bags and wallets must be less than 12 inches by 12 inches. This is about the same size as a gallon Ziploc bag. Small clutches, about the size of your palm, don’t have to be transparent.
