Drive-Thru Dinner for Local Veterans: The DeKalb Elks Club and Sycamore Elks Club will partner with Lincoln Inn Restaurant to host a drive-thru dinner for local veterans.
The dinner will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Lincoln Inn at Faranda’s, 302 Grove St., DeKalb, according to a news release. The meal includes roast pork, sweet corn, mashed potatoes, gravy and dressing. Proceeds from the dinner will provide free meals to local veterans. Dinner costs $17. American Legion Ceremony: The DeKalb American Veterans Association Post 66 holds its annual Veterans Day event at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Clock in Memorial Park at the intersection of First Street and Lincoln Highway in downtown DeKalb. The ceremony begins on Saturday, November 11th at 11am.
Kishwaukee College Veterans Day Ceremony: Kishwaukee College (21193 Malta Road, Malta) will hold a Veterans Day ceremony in the Student Center on Thursday, November 9th at 11 a.m. The ceremony is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided for all guests during and after the ceremony.
Speakers include accommodation expert Delaney Hood; John Gruben, Rochelle American Legion Post 403 commander and adjunct quiche-making technology instructor. Kish University President Laurie Borowitz; Rochelle High School senior Luke Smart will sing the national anthem. The Pledge of Allegiance will be led by military veteran and assistant professor of physics Kim Allert. There will also be recognition and a moment of silence for military personnel, a performance by the DeKalb High School Chamber Orchestra, and remarks from guest speakers Steve Kors, an Army veteran, and DeKalb Mayor and Army veteran Cohen Burns. The event will be recorded and livestreamed on the university’s social media platforms. The Veterans Day ceremony is sponsored by the Kishwaukee College Veterans Advocacy Committee.
