Seasonal marketplaces are starting to pop up in Oakland, and you know it’s officially the holiday season when hip-hop’s Nutcracker hits Paramount. Beyond these holiday events, there are plenty of other things to do in the city. I have listed some good ones below.
Remember, during the holiday season, the City of Oakland, through its “Five After Five” program, allows workers and visitors to park in the Franklin Plaza parking lot at 19th and Franklin Streets for a flat fee of $5 on weekdays. . After 5pm and all day on weekends.

If you’ve ever wanted to be in a band, make your rock star dreams come true with Instant Band. Audience members of the event, which is currently held every two months, have the chance to be chosen by the party’s host to go on stage and play as part of that night’s band. When the band gathers, the group meets briefly and plans a five-minute set. If you don’t want to participate, you can bring your own drinks to share and enjoy the show as an audience member. All participants must be fully vaccinated and boosted, and masks are also required.

‘Unity In Giving’ Dinner with Oakland Roots at Parche
Parche, a Colombian restaurant that opened in downtown Oakland earlier this year, has partnered with Oakland Roots for a special ticketed event where attendees can enjoy a carefully selected Colombian dinner and have the chance to meet players and members. It will be held. Belongs to Roots and Soul Soccer Club. Proceeds will be donated to the Roots & Soul Foundation, which will help create opportunities for Oakland and East Bay youth interested in soccer and increase access to quality sports programming.

auckland diwali festival
As Oakland’s first South Asian City Council member, Ward 4’s Janani Ramachandran is an important member of many communities in Oakland and the East Bay, including Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, and other South Asian communities. It plans to host an event to celebrate Diwali, a cultural holiday. Diwali is a national holiday in India that celebrates humanity’s ability to overcome evil and the victory of light over darkness. Auckland’s first festival will feature live music, performances, speakers, refreshments and more. Auckland DJ Madam Gandhi will provide the music and emcee the event. Azaad, a Bollywood dance group based at the University of California, Berkeley, will also perform.

Marche Holiday Marketplace
Founded by Sarah Ewick and Betsy Sadler, Marche Collective aims to elevate women-owned and women-led brands by hosting marketplaces nationwide. This weekend, the collective will hold its first Bay Area event in Oakland. Guests can shop from her 50+ brands from within the Bay Area and beyond, enjoy a holiday photoshoot, get their eyebrows done, and sample a variety of food and drinks.

“Hip-Hop Nutcracker” at Paramount Theater
Now in its 10th year, hip hop nutcracker Reimagine Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s 129-year-old classical ballet. In this production, Maria-Clara and the Nutcracker Prince go on an adventure, but instead of his traditional 19th-century Germany, the story takes place among the diverse sights and sounds of modern-day New York City. . The hip-hop Nutcracker is performed by 12 dancers, his DJ on stage, and his electric violinist.
