monroe, louisiana– The University of Louisiana-Monroe will host Troy University for its final home football game of 2023. The season begins on Saturday, November 11th. Kickoff is at 1pm. at Malone Stadium.Before the game, ULM invites the public to attend the SGA family tailgate and 38th The annual Don Weems Chili Cook-off. Family Day Tailgate at The Grove, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The ULM Student Government Association (SGA) will host a family tailgate at The Grove next to Malone Stadium from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. SGA provides free meals and fun outdoor activities for the whole family. The day will include a pre-game Hawk Walk and Pep Rally, photo booth and chili cook-off tasting. Pre-registration is not required, but please register to participate in the Family Day Tailgate at the following address: ulm.edu/familyday.
38th Annual Don Weems Memorial Chili Cook-off, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
38th The annual Don Weems Memorial Chili Cook-off will be held on Saturday, November 11th from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Pecan Grove on the campus of the University of Louisiana at Monroe, next to Malone Stadium. Cooking begins at 8 a.m. and public tasting begins at 11:30 a.m. Winners will be announced on the Student Globe Stage at 12:30 p.m.
The cook-off is open to the public and teams will consist of up to 6 members. Teams must provide their own equipment and all chili peppers must be prepared from scratch on site. Awards are given in both open and student categories. The People’s Choice Award will also be presented.
Those who would like to sample and judge can purchase a tasting wristband for $10 that includes one sample of each participant’s chili and one vote for the People’s Choice Award. Additional votes can be purchased for $1.

Since 1984, 31 Ambassadors and Alumni Associations have hosted the Chili Cook-off. The event was started by Tom Diehl, Frank Elkin III, and Don Weems. Alumni, community members, faculty and student teams will compete for first, second and third place in each category in the open and student divisions.
