The Northport Walmart parking lot is filled with pallets and crates, a sign that change is coming soon. The changes are an attempt to modernize the store, which will now feature household items including bedding.
Walmart leaders said in a news release that the goal is a more convenient and enjoyable shopping experience.
The new look includes a food and drink grab-and-go area, updated store features and moving the pharmacy to a more prominent location.
The upgrades are part of a $9 billion investment to modernize more than 4,500 stores.
According to the news release, other upgrades include:
- More shopping cart
- More checkout options, including manned lanes and self-checkout areas
- Expanding online grocery pickup and delivery area
- Displays within departments that showcase specific items
- Several ready-to-use displays
- Expanded floor space allows customers to explore and discover
- Mother’s room with a comfortable and clean private area for nursing mothers
- New dollar store at store entrance with seasonal items
“We are investing more than $9 billion over two years to modernize more than 1,400 stores in the U.S.,” Walmart CEO John Furner said in a statement. “Nearly 90% of the U.S. population lives within 10 miles of a Walmart, and we understand how important local stores are to our customers and communities. jobs, and our employees will be able to easily get what our customers want, when they want it.”
