Several events are scheduled this week in Clark and Champaign counties to commemorate Veterans Day.
Veterans Day is observed on November 11th of each year to honor those who have served in the U.S. military.
Clark State University held several events including the raising of 2,000 U.S. flags with POW/MIA on Monday at its Springfield campus on Leffel Lane, the Green Center in Beaver Creek, and the Ohio High Point Career Center in Bellefontaine. Campus activities honor veterans. A flag is displayed on the main campus.
“We are very grateful to Clark State University’s veterans, and we are extremely proud that the number of veterans continues to grow each year,” said Dawain Kirkman, vice president for student affairs. . “To those who served in the U.S. Armed Forces, Selective Reserve, and National Guard, thank you for your service.”
On Tuesday, there will be a meet-and-greet with a light breakfast from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m., followed by a color display at 9:00 a.m. and a commemoration of Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, Lost in the Gulf at 9:15 a.m. A roll call will be held to remember the lives lost. War and the Vietnam War, it all took place in the Sarah T. Landes (TLC) Building. On Wednesday, a meet-and-greet with a light breakfast will be held on the second floor of the Beaver Creek campus from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. And on Thursday, a Veterans Appreciation Lunch will be held at Eagle’s Nest from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Throughout the week, the library will feature a display of books about veterans for educational reading, as well as displays of uniforms from various branches and a World War II art exhibit by magazine, book, and newspaper illustrator George Withers. Champaign Family YMCA The annual Veterans Appreciation Breakfast event will be held on Thursday, November 9th from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Y lobby.
Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, and eggs made by YMCA staff and volunteers. YMCA Preschool students will also perform patriotic songs and recite the Pledge of Allegiance at 9:15 a.m.
Member Dorothy Case will be honored with this year’s Rising Local Veteran. The case is from 1989 until 1992 when she completed active duty in the United States Air Force at WPAFB. She served in the United States Air Force Reserve from 1992 until her retirement in 2009, retiring as a lieutenant colonel.

Ferncliff Cemetery will hold its annual Veterans Day program at 10 a.m. Friday at Veterans War Memorial Park.
The ceremony included the national anthem sung by the Springfield High School choir, a short speech by Lt. Col. Josh Harris of the Ohio National Guard, a performance of TAPS by the local Marine Corps League Detachment 963, and a roll call of the names of all interned veterans. is included. The program is open to the public and lasts 45 minutes. Coffee and donuts will be provided, but there are no chairs, so please bring your own. No reservation required.
United Senior Services (USS) We will be holding a Veterans Day event on Friday at 10 a.m.
Refreshments will be served before the 11 a.m. pinning ceremony. Must be a veteran and current USS member to participate. You can also bring your family, partner, or spouse.

Greenon Local Schools and Enon Historical Society will hold a dedication ceremony for the Veterans Memorial Garden at 3950 S. Tecumseh Road on Friday at 4 p.m.
This event is open to all community members and is designed to honor the veterans who have served in the Greenon area.
Autumn Trails Stable will be hosting Vets for Vets on Nov. 11 from 3 to 5 p.m. at 2000 Folk Beam Road in Springfield.
Veterans can receive one free meal, but must fill out a pre-sale form. Meals include pulled pork or brisket, smoked macaroni and cheese, green bean casserole, and smoked brownie.

Champaign County Conservation Alliance will offer Civil War Cemetery Tours on Nov. 11 and 12 at Spring Grove Cemetery, 1483 N. Heck Hill Road in Saint-Paris, with two sessions each day at 1 and 2 p.m.
The tour covers the lives of 10 Champaign County residents who served in the Civil War, including the last surviving Ohio nurse. The tour will be led by Civil War historian Jared Shank.

Springfield and Dayton Exchange Club will host the Veterans Matter 50/50 Raffle Pinewood Derby Race on Saturday, November 11th at 2pm at the Dayton Masonic Center.
