ROSESVILLE, Calif. — Placer County will host two sporting events this weekend that will draw thousands of athletes and their fans to the area.
The Northern California Volleyball Association (NCVA) 17th Annual Boys Far Western Junior National Tournament will be held this weekend in Roseville. Some of the best club teams and players will be competing to compete in the USA Volleyball National Championship this summer in Dallas.
The event was expected to attract more than 5,000 athletes and fans and generate a $1 million surge in revenue for the region, according to Placer Valley Tourism.
“Look at them, you’ll be amazed at how high they jump and how much impact they make,” said Tom Donaghy of the NCVA.
The championship game will be held Sunday afternoon at the Robbelen Center, 700 Event Center Drive in Roseville.
Meanwhile, the Cyclocross District Championships are being held in Rocklin.
The sport features a challenging steeplechase-like bicycle race that includes numerous obstacles and encourages fans to ring cowbells and hand out candy, drinks, and even dollar bills.
“I think cyclocross has the most fun atmosphere and is the most fun discipline of bike racing and cycling,” said Clint Klassen, Clipped In For Life’s executive director and race director.
The championship starts at 9 a.m. Sunday with the final race at 2:30 p.m. at Sunset Whitney Recreation Area, 4201 Midas Ave. in Rocklin. Top finishers will qualify for the national championship.
Both events are said to boost the local economy and provide sports fans with a fun-filled weekend come rain or shine.
