Now, the Tennessee school system says fans who commit acts that result in school fines will be banned until they receive a refund.
On Tuesday, Wayne County Schools informed fans on Facebook that if the school system is fined, they will be barred from enrolling until the school repays the fine.
“Good sportsmanship and appropriate personal conduct are expected at all sporting events,” Wayne Company Schools said in a post. “If a spectator is deemed unruly by TSSAA officials, the school will be subject to fines. These fines will be paid from funds designated to provide athletic opportunities for students.”
“Therefore, if a spectator, whether a student or an adult, exhibits behavior that results in the TSSAA imposing a fine on the school, that person will not be allowed to participate in any Wayne County School System sporting event until the fine is refunded. “You will be prohibited from participating” in the school. “
New rules changes were made in July 2023 to address unsportsmanlike conduct by spectators.
“The council added language that would allow the association to fine schools a minimum of $250 if a fan is ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct during a game,” the TSSAA said. “The new rules also include the possibility of other non-monetary disciplinary actions, including but not limited to probation and/or restrictive probation for the entire athletic program.”
