The opening of Phoenix’s newly renovated Walmart Supercenter will include the presentation of a $4,000 grant to a local nonprofit and an appearance by NASCAR racer Bubba Wallace.
The store, located at 7575 W. Lower Buckeye Road, will host a re-grand opening celebration on Friday, Nov. 3 at 8 a.m.
The Luke Air Force Base Color Guard will perform, and Arizona Cardinals cheerleaders and Wallace will also be in attendance. Additionally, there will be performances by the Sierra Linda High School Band and Choir, the Mariachi Alma Nacional, and the Ballet Folklorico de Santa Her Maria.
Walmart will also gift $2,000 each to both Angels on Patrol and St. Mary’s Food Bank.
In addition to store improvements, Phoenix Supercenter also features a new mural designed and illustrated by Tony Plak and Menina. The work reflects Phoenix’s diversity and local culture and is part of Walmart’s Community Mural Program, the largest public art installation celebrating communities across the United States.
“This mural was inspired by the unique name of the city of Phoenix,” said artists Tony Plaque and Menina of the group Severos in a press release. “The vivid colors of the sunset, the colors of the land that surrounds it, and the vegetation that, despite extreme weather, still bears witness to the hardworking people of this metropolis, are reborn every day as phoenixes, moving through them. “In search of a better tomorrow.” ”
