A very famous star was spotted “working” in the retail industry and the image went viral, but not for the reason you might think.
Charli D’Amelio was spotted working a shift at Walmart.
D’Amelio, 19, was hopping around affordable chain stores to promote his new popcorn line.
The star was seen wearing a Walmart uniform with a name tag and smiling as she scanned items at checkout.
A video of her in working-class cosplay has been viewed more than 80 million times online, but people are not impressed by the act.
“How beautiful are rich people pretending to be poor,” someone tweeted.
“Role-playing as a hard-working Walmart cashier is a little low-level,” mused another.
Another said they thought the TikTok star was “mocking” the working class.
Others tweeted that they were tired of people trying so hard to gain sympathy, while another claimed this was the most “disgusting” thing they had ever seen.
“Roleplaying as middle class is crazy,” someone tweeted.
D’Amelio is one of the world’s hottest social media celebrities, with over 151 million followers on TikTok and 40 million followers on Instagram.
She also caused a huge uproar online after breaking up with fellow creator Lil Huddy and dating one of his best friends, Landon Barker.
Yes, Landon is the son of Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, who is famously married to Kourtney Kardashian.
Landon and Lil Huddy are no longer friends.
D’Amelio isn’t the first celebrity to use getting a regular job as a trick.
In August, A-list musician Ed Sheeran was spotted working a small retail job at a Lego store.
Sheeran shared on Instagram that he spent a day working as a “brick expert” at a local Lego store in Minneapolis’ iconic Mall of America.
One customer was stunned when he approached the counter to meet Sheeran at checkout.
“Are you kidding me?” she cried.
Sheeran also performs his hit song lego house Because of the excited crowd in the store.
