CLOVIS, N.M. — The Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico (FVENM) announced Friday that it has received a $100,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation, one of the largest donations the food bank has ever received. This will allow the food bank to expand its series of mobile food pantries that will continue throughout the holiday season, the press release said.
The food bank serves approximately 36,000 families each year in DeBaca, Roosevelt, Curry, Key and Guadalupe counties, according to a press release.
The Walmart Supercenter in Clovis was a major donor of fresh and frozen food.
The press release details that the food bank has donated approximately 5,000 pounds of food each month over the years. Unfortunately, there was a fire caused by an arsonist at the store and the store was temporarily closed for repairs and renovations. This made food banks aware of the impact of Walmart’s donations to FVENM.
“The generous support of Walmart and the Walmart Foundation allows us to provide our services.
In addition to the more than 4,000 families the food bank serves each month, an additional 1,000 families
Eastern New Mexico. This support will continue through early next year,” said Deanna Sprague.
Executive Director of FBENM. “Vacations should be a time of joy.
And congratulations to everyone. We look forward to continuing our solid work in the future.
Everyone is eating at their table throughout the new year. ”
Mobile pantries will be held in the affected communities of Clovis, Portales, Tucumcari, Logan, Melrose and Fort Sumner.
