BETHLEHEM — A 30-year-old Troy man has pleaded guilty to stealing a firearm from the Walmart area, according to federal prosecutors.
Michael C. McDermott pleaded guilty Friday to stealing six firearms from the Glenmont Walmart while it was closed overnight, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York. According to court documents, McDermott was charged with stealing five shotguns and a rifle from a store on Route 9W in May 2022, in violation of federal law for stealing firearms from a licensed dealer. He was indicted in April.
Prosecutors said in a news release that McDermott admitted to breaking the glass case to steal the gun and then pointing the gun at the store clerks who chased them into the woods.
McDermott is scheduled to be sentenced in federal court in Albany on Monday, Feb. 26, and faces up to 10 years in state prison, three years of probation, and a $250,000 fine, according to a news release. It is said that there is a possibility.
