BIG RAPIDS — The Walmart Supercenter at 21400 Perry Avenue in Big Rapids will host a medical disposal event on Oct. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event is part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, held twice a year by the Drug Enforcement Administration. Law enforcement will be stationed in Walmart store parking lots to help people safely dispose of unwanted, unused and expired prescription drugs.
“We continue to prioritize our efforts to prevent prescription drug misuse and abuse in our communities,” said Lisa Young, senior director of specialty compliance and ethics at Walmart. “By working with organizations on initiatives like this, we can minimize the chance that prescription drugs end up in the wrong hands.”
As of 2020, Walmart stores have installed more than 1,000 in-pharmacy medication disposal kiosks to help pharmacy customers dispose of unused medications throughout the year. A complete list of disposal locations can be found at deadiversion.usdoj.gov/drug_disposal/takeback.
In addition, Walmart and Sam’s Club are offering the home opioid treatment product DisposeRx free of charge at all pharmacies nationwide for those filling prescriptions for opioid medications. To learn more about Walmart’s opioid management efforts, visit Walmart.com/opioids.
