Apple Valley, California (VVNG.com) – A “swatting” prank call at a Walmart store in Apple Valley prompted an evacuation, officials said Tuesday.
On October 24, 2023, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Walmart employees received a call from an unknown person threatening to shoot into the store.
As a precautionary measure, employees were immediately evacuated from the store and customers were also asked to leave the area.
Apple Valley Police Department officials immediately responded to the scene and conducted a thorough search of the property.
Fortunately, no evidence was found to suggest anyone was there or intended to cause harm.
Further investigation revealed that the phone number used in the call belonged to an individual in another state, and the incident was classified as a “swatting” prank.
Swatting is a criminal act in which individuals make false reports and send large numbers of law enforcement officers to locations where no crime has been committed.
