The five most common IVT types across all these apps are:
- display impression fraud (Sophisticated Outlier Activity*): Impressions generated at a statistically significant increased rate from the same browser or device.
- Video impression fraud (High Outlier Activity*): Video ad impressions generated at a statistically significant increased rate from the same browser or device.
- masked ip (Manipulation/tampering with location-related attributes*): The user’s IP does not match the IP reported in the ad transaction and the associated ISP.
- Device ID stuffing (Advanced Outlier Activity*, Attribute Manipulation*, Misrepresentation*): Activity from devices that connect to the Internet through a statistically significant increased number of different IP addresses.
- data center (Known Datacenter Traffic*): The user’s IP matches Pixalate’s list of known datacenters.
*( ) indicates IVT detection method based on Media Rating Council (MRC) invalid traffic guidelines.
Pixalate excluded spoofing from this report because it requires different prevention tactics. (Blocking apps that are most susceptible to spoofing may block apps that have real traffic that is attractive to buyers.)
