Theft: Warrensville Center Road.
On Oct. 21, a 20-year-old South Euclid woman and a 16-year-old Youngstown girl were arrested for shoplifting at Walmart.
Officers spoke with the girl’s mother on the phone and learned that the girl had been staying at a woman’s home.
The woman was charged with theft and charges were recommended against the girl in juvenile court.
While dealing with the situation, an employee alerted officers to another theft in progress at the store. Two women were subsequently taken into custody and charged with the theft.
Over the next two hours, a 29-year-old Euclid woman was charged with theft for failing to scan 37 items, and a Cleveland man was also charged with theft of $428 worth of merchandise. Both incidents were unrelated.
Scam: Okalona Road
On October 18, a man reported that a check issued by his company was fraudulently cashed by someone other than the payee.
He said $10,000 worth of money was sent to a plumbing company in the mail, but it appears to have been intercepted and digitally altered.
This incident is under investigation.
Worsening threat: South Green Road
On Oct. 19, an 11-year-old girl was found to have said in a group message that she wanted to harm other students and the principal at Greenview Upper Elementary School.
An investigation revealed that the girl did not intend to harm anyone, nor did she have the means to do so.
Recovered Stolen Vehicle: Norma Drive
On Oct. 19, a vehicle stolen from Cleveland was found in the 4300 block.
This was the second stolen vehicle discovered in the area in recent history.
Arson: South Belvoir Boulevard
The city’s recreation director reported on Oct. 19 that a fire broke out at the Pavilion at Quarry Park North the previous evening.
It was discovered that two trash cans had been set on fire by someone. The fire damaged two picnic benches.
As a result of the investigation, a 20-year-old resident of Greenvale Drive was arrested and charged with arson.
Wire Fraud: Charlton Road
An 86-year-old woman reported on October 20 that she was scammed out of $9,000 worth of Bitcoin after receiving a pop-up message on her computer.
When she called the number provided, she was told that her computer had been hacked and that she would need to pay in Bitcoin to resolve the issue.
Her bank is investigating.
Crime Victim: Warrensville Center Road.
On Oct. 20, a man and woman reported someone trying to break into their vehicle in a Walmart parking lot.
Surveillance video confirmed that the suspect arrived in the area and left the area in another vehicle involved in car thefts in Lyndhurst and Mayfield Heights.
Theft: Mayfield Road
A woman said her 12-year-old son’s cell phone was stolen while he was walking home from school on October 23.
The boy said he was near Dorsh Road when another boy from the same school ran up behind him and snatched the phone from his hands.
The charges are pending further investigation by detectives.
Domestic Violence: South Green Road
A woman reported on October 23 that her boyfriend strangled her because he wouldn’t have sex with her.
Officers learned that the two had been drinking wine and that the woman became upset when the man poured the remainder of the wine down the sink.
It wasn’t clear which one wanted sex.
The 58-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of domestic violence.
Unauthorized use of vehicle: Okalona Road
A woman reported on October 24 that her child’s father owned her car and was refusing to give it back.
Officers contacted the Maple Heights man, who said he helped pay for the car but had no intention of returning it.
The vehicle was then registered as stolen.
