A wide range of free Halloween events will be held this weekend through Tuesday’s holiday, including three Halloween events at recreation centers hosted by City Council members.
Halloween at the Rec Haunted House will be hosted by District 7 Councilwoman and Mayor Pro Tempore Vanessa Perez and will be held Friday at the Fasken Rec Center, 15201 Cerralvo Dr., starting at 5 p.m. The event will feature movies, food, candy, goodie bags and more. , is freely available to the public. The movie to be screened is “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.” His 2019 PG-13 film has a running time of 108 minutes and is based on the anthology book series of the same name.
District 1 City Councilman Gilbert Gonzalez is hosting Fright Night at the Rec at the El Eden Recreation Center, located at 4735 Loma Vista Dr. It is free and open to the public and will run from 5:30 to 9 p.m. The costume contest begins. The event will also feature a haunted house, music, food, games, and trick-or-treating booths.
District 2 City Councilor Daisy Campos Rodriguez will host a Beastly Candy Bash on Halloween from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Cigarroa Recreation Center, 2201 Zacatecas Street. It features a haunted house.
Several other holiday events will take place over the weekend.
Friday, October 27th
Laredo Hillside Little League is hosting a Halloween Fest tent-or-treat event at Hillside Field 6, 1700 East Cherry Hill Dr. The free event begins at 7 p.m. and includes games, a best canopy contest, and a costume contest.
Dragonflies Boutique is hosting Ghouls Night Out from 5pm to 7pm. Customers dressed in Halloween costumes receive discounts and special benefits on their first 24 purchases. There will be permanently available jewelry, happy hour, and a few surprises. Dragonflies Boutique is located at 4043 N. Bartlett Ave.
The Laredo Humane Society is hosting a Howl-O-Ween Movie Night featuring a screening of The Exorcist. The 1973 film is rated R and has a running time of 122 minutes. The free movie screening will give attendees the chance to cuddle with one of the shelter’s dogs while watching a scary movie. The event begins at the LAPS Shelter, 2500 Gonzalez St., at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, October 28th
TAMIU Performing Arts Center will host a Halloween edition of Silent Film Saturday, screening the unrated 1922 film Nosferatu, which has a running time of 81 minutes. The screening begins at 3pm and features live organ accompaniment by Dr. Colin Campbell. Screenings are free and open to the public, and donations will be accepted at the door.
Cosmos Bar and Grill will host a Halloween party starting at 9 p.m. Music will be provided by DJ Tommy Garcia, and there will be food, drinks and a costume contest. Cosmos Bar and Grill’s address is 7518 McPherson Rd. Unit 510.
Sunday, October 29th
Golondrina Food Park will host its annual Howl-O-Ween Pet Costume Contest from 5 p.m. People are encouraged to show off their pets in their best Halloween costumes. Registration is free and done on the spot. Golondrina Food Park is located at 10211 Golondrina Dr.
