In Hinduism, Diwali, the festival of lights, celebrates Lord Ram’s victory over the demon king Ravana. It also marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year.
This year Diwali will be celebrated on November 12th and a number of events are planned in the weeks leading up to the festival.

October 27th
Disha USA Annual Diwali Festival
Disha USA, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering Hindus through civic engagement, is hosting a grand Diwali celebration on Friday, October 27th. The event includes a lamp lighting ceremony and traditional song and dance performances. Keynote speaker Josh Emmett, founder of Vedanta Institute Houston, will share his insights, and there will also be a performance by singer and actress Mary Milben. Attendance is by RSVP only.

October 28th
2nd Diwali Handloom Expo
Check out our beautiful collection of handwoven sarees from seven states of India. Order your own custom saree designed just for you. There will be a fashion parade, ready-to-go sarees and a one-minute draping challenge with a chance to win exciting prizes. Registration required. Tickets are free and available until October 27th.

The nonprofit Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh hosts a traditional family-friendly celebration followed by lunch. The event is free and open to all, but please register.

India House Diwali Bazaar
Enjoy Indian food stalls, shop for traditional clothing and jewelry, and get a henna tattoo. There will be live entertainment, bounce houses, face painting, a petting zoo and more. This event is partially funded by the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance and is free to attend.

2023 Kings Lake Diwali Event
A popular Katy celebration hosted by King Lake’s Indian Americans, the event includes traditional singing and dancing, a talent show for children, and more. Tickets can be purchased for $25 per person and children under 5 years old can attend for free.

November 4th
international diwali dussehra festival
Shri Sita Ram Foundation will hold the 12th International Diwali Dussehra Festival at Epicenter instead of Constellation Field this year. The festival begins with a grand parade featuring over 40 floats. There will be traditional music, folk dances, drama, delicious food and friendly competitions. At sunset, an effigy of the demon king Ravana, symbolizing the victory of good over evil, is burnt, followed by a spectacular fireworks display. Tickets can be purchased for $12 per person.

BAPS Diwali and New Year Festival
BAPS Sri Swaminarayan Sanstha has several Diwali events planned, starting with an outdoor program and fireworks on November 4. Please see here for the detail.

Grand Diwali Celebration at Sir Meenakshi Temple
The event includes a bazaar, cultural programs, temple programs, fireworks, etc. Dancers of all ages can showcase their talents in classical and semi-classical dance. To participate in the cultural program, remember to register by the deadline of Sunday, October 29th.

November 10th
God and the Devil – Houston Diwali Fest 2023
With the goal of introducing Diwali to the broader community, organizers chose Houston’s cutting-edge music venue Rise Rooftop for the 10th annual Houston Diwali Festival. This year’s theme is “God and the Devil.” Ticket prices range from $10 to $80. Learn more about.

2023 Siena Diwali Celebration
Celebrate the Festival of Lights with Bollywood dancing, shopping, authentic food and crafts, live entertainment, fireworks, and more. Tickets are available online only and are priced at $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Diwali Celebration at ISKCON in Houston
Celebrate Diwali with joy, prayers, diya lighting and family unity at the spacious ISKCON temple. The event is free.

Enjoy Indian cuisine, shop for exquisite Indian jewelry, learn, dance and immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Indian culture. Don’t miss the special children’s zone with coloring contests, costume shows, Ramayan presentations, henna, face painting and more. The event is hosted by Fort Bend County Judge KP George’s office in collaboration with Ashirwad A Blessing Family, Vedic Fair 11, and Indian American Organizations of Fort Bend. Tickets can be purchased online for $5 or at the gate for $15.
