Peanut Butter Festival time: Come on everyone!
Thirty-one years ago, the Brundidge Historical Society hosted the first Peanut Butter Festival on the Bass House lawn in downtown Brundidge.
On Saturday, the grounds of the historic Bath House will once again be the site of the annual Harvest and Heritage Celebration, which pays homage to the town’s proud heritage in the peanut butter industry.
BHS President Lawrence Borden said the Peanut Butter Festival is off to a smooth start with a full day of activities scheduled for the 5K Peanut Butter Run.
“The Runner is the largest amount of peanuts grown in the United States, so it makes sense that there would be a 5K run at the Peanut Butter Festival,” Borden said. āThe Bath House grounds in downtown Brundidge feature ongoing entertainment in the Knox-Ryalls Pavilion, old-fashioned demonstrations, a mule-drawn sugar mill, arts and crafts, a children’s barn, pig calling, and more. It will be the venue for accompanying Peanut Butter Festival activities, including a rooster crowing contest and homemade cakes, cookies and pies.
“For starters, we’ll have all kinds of festival food, including fried peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, boiled peanuts, roasted corn, collard greens, and cornbread. You won’t go hungry.”
At 1 p.m., the Nutter Butter Parade featuring all kinds of nuts will be the main attraction along Main Street.
It’s a parade where anything goes. Mules, wagons, tractors, bouncing pigs, anything that makes you smile is welcome. Parade alongside Piggly Wiggly.
There is no admission to the Peanut Butter Festival. Enjoy the day like in the old days when people would flock from all over the county with a little money in their pockets after a successful and blessed harvest season.
Come everyone!
