Apple is planning to introduce a redesigned TV app that integrates the iTunes Movies and iTunes TV Shows apps, Bloomberg reports. Sources say the new app is expected to be released around December.
As part of the overhaul, the company is eliminating a dedicated app for Apple TV set-top boxes that allows users to rent and purchase movies and shows. It will also remove the movies and TV shows section from his iTunes Store app on iPhone and iPad. An Apple spokesperson declined to comment on the move.
The TV app already lets you rent and buy shows, so you don’t need a separate iTunes app. The TV app also allows users to subscribe to third-party video services and her Apple TV+.
To make navigating the TV app easier, Apple will reportedly introduce a new panel for navigation on the left side of the screen.
The revamped app on the Apple TV box includes a new side panel on the left for navigating between video categories, matching the design aesthetic used by Netflix and other streaming services. The app not only runs on Apple’s set-top boxes, but is also available on smart TVs made by other companies.
Notably, Apple has already started the process of integrating the app into its TV app. Back in August, it shut down the iTunes Movies Trailers app and moved some of its content to the TV app.
