Missouri State University’s College of Arts, Languages, and Philosophy will present a jazz ensemble and jazz choir concert this November.
Performances begin Friday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. in the Leach Theater in Castleman Hall, corner of 10th and Main Streets on the Missouri S&T campus. A student-led jazz combo will perform pre-concert music starting at 6:30 p.m. The main concert begins at 7 p.m. with a jazz choir conducted by music education professor Laurie Francis, followed by a big band conducted by Dr. Kyle. Wernke, assistant professor of music.
“The jazz choir will be performing new arrangements of jazz standards,” says Francis. “Songs include ‘Blue Skies’ and ‘Autumn Leaves,’ as well as vocal arrangements from ‘Minecraft.'”
“This year, the size of the jazz ensemble has gotten a little bigger, so I’m even more excited about the fall concerts,” says Wernke. “We have classic songs like Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September,” as well as lesser-known chart favorites like “The Chicken,” making it a really fun program.”
Tickets are $5 for the general public and free for youth 18 and under and Missouri Tech University students with valid ID. Tickets can be purchased at the Leach His Theater Box Office, located on 10th Street, inside the main entrance of Castleman Hall, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased online at leachtheatre.mst.edu or by calling 573-341-4219.
