In the lead-up to Halloween, there are many free and low-cost events for all ages. Here are options from Rancho His Bernardo, 4S Ranch, Poway, and Carmel Mountain Ranch.
Rancho Bernardo
• Rancho Bernardo High School will present “The Addams Family: School Edition” on Thursday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 28, at the RBHS Performing Arts Center, 13010 Paseo Lucido.
Children are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes and attend the show on Oct. 28 at 2 p.m.

• The Westwood Club will hold its annual Halloween Carnival for members only on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Games, monster mini golf, and trick-or-treating will be held on the club grounds. The club is located at 17394 W. Bernardo Drive. For more information, call 858-485-6300.

• The Rancho Bernardo Library will host a free “Halloween Extravaganza” on Saturday, October 28th from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM in the Library’s 2nd Floor Community Room (17110 Bernardo Center Drive).
All ages are welcome to attend this family-friendly event in ‘appropriate’ attire. It will include a musical performance by Mike Doctors from 2-2:30 p.m., carnival-style games for kids to play and win prizes, and candy and craft activities. Participants can make a Dia de los Muertos-inspired mask or pool noodle monster while supplies last. For more information, call 858-485-6300.
4S lunch
• “Star Wars Halloween Spooktacular” will be held at the 4S Ranch Library, 10433 Reserve Drive, on Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 4 to 7 p.m. The event for all ages includes spooky storytime, monster hunts, treats and photo opportunities with the 501st’s “Star Wars” characters.

• The annual haunted house at Templers Hall in Old Poway Park is open daily from 6:30 to 9 p.m., through Saturday, Oct. 28. Admission is $1. Target age is 5 years old and above. The park is located at 14134 Midland Road.

• The Poway Chapter of the National Charity League will hold a Halloween Carnival on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Poway Library, 13137 Poway Road. • The annual “Once Upon a Halloween” will be held at Old Poway Park, 14134 Midland Road, on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Templars Hall will feature a haunted house, as well as “haunted” carnival games and Poway Midland Railroad rides.

• The Poway Valley Riders Association will hold its annual “Halloween Fun Show” on Sunday, Oct. 29, at 8 a.m. Riders of all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate at his PVRA Arena located at 14336 Tierra Bonita Road. Spectators and leashed dogs are welcome to attend for free.
Riders and non-riders alike are invited to bring their carved pumpkins for judging. Food will be available for purchase.
There will be special spooky games throughout the morning, including Graveyard Races, Bat Brigade and Ghost Busters Ride. Afternoon events include a costume contest to determine the most creatively costumed horse and rider pairing. Show details and entry forms can be found on his PVRA.com.

• The Poway Chamber of Commerce is organizing a Halloween treat trail. On Tuesday, October 31st from 2:00pm to 6:00pm, children and families can enjoy fun and safe trick-or-treating at participating businesses. A list of participants and a map will be posted in advance on poway.com.
carmel mountain ranch
• Carmel Mountain Plaza will host Halloween Spooktacular on Tuesday, Oct. 31 from 3 to 5 p.m. Kids in costume can go trick-or-treating at participating stores at the shopping center. In the fountain courtyard there will be live music by the 80’z All Stars.
Free treat bags will be distributed at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and Angelica Film Center. Participants are asked to bring canned food to support the San Diego Food Bank. The shopping center address is 11602-12174 Carmel Mountain Road.

• Participating businesses at Carmel Mountain Ranch Town Center will provide merchandise to trick-or-treaters ages 12 and under in costume. Must be accompanied by an adult.
This event will be held on Tuesday, October 31st from 3pm to 5pm. Participating businesses will display bright orange pumpkins in their windows.
Free snack bags will be distributed in the SoMa neighborhood, across from Chase Bank. The center is located at 11815 Carmel Mountain Road.
