mausoleum crawl
Ferncliff Cemetery will host its 6th annual Mausoleum Crawl tonight.
These evening lantern tours are led by Kevin Rose of the Turner Foundation and Hartman Gardens. Attendees will have the opportunity to enter the mausoleum, which is open to the public, and hear the history of Springfield’s famous early residents.
Registration begins at 5pm each night and the crawl begins at 6pm. Lanterns will be provided. The recommended donation amount is $10 per person. This is an intense walking tour that includes hills. Reservations are required. Please call the cemetery office at 937-322-3491.
master gardener class
Interested in becoming a Master Gardener volunteer? The new MGV training class will be offered in 2024 and will begin in January and run for 10 weeks.
Clark County MGV will hold an open house tonight at the OSU Clark Extension office from 6 to 7 p.m.
bible study
Retired Grace Bible Church pastor and Bible teacher Marv Wiseman will be holding a men’s Bible study at 7 a.m. today at Studebaker Restaurant.

Mercy Health Series
Breast surgeon Colleen Alexander, MD, and breast cancer patient navigator Tracy Adrian, RN, will speak on the topic of breast cancer in the October edition of the Mercy Health Speaker Series.
October is known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, raising awareness about the disease and its impact. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the United States.
This event will focus on sharing information about breast health, cancer, diagnosis, and treatment options. This speaking event will be held online via Zoom and in-person on Wednesday from 12:00pm to 1:00pm in the corner conference room of COhatch the Market, 100 S. Fountain Ave.

community meal
Point of Grace Church (formerly New Beginnings UMC) will host a community meal at 6 p.m. Wednesday and a prayer gathering at 7 p.m. at 5065 Old Mechanicsburg Road.
fear of the hearth
National Trail, Park and Recreation District (NTPRD) officials will host a fireside flight for ages 13 and older at the Davidson Interpretive Center on Wednesday from 7 to 8:15 p.m.
Storytellers dressed in 19th century costumes gather around a fireplace and tell horrifying stories from the past. This program is suitable for people with mobility issues.

aging program
A free program to help seniors stay healthy in their later years is being offered at the Urbana-Champaign County Senior Center and will feature several Mercy Health experts.
The Aging Mastery Program (AMP) aims to help older adults learn more about the important steps they can take to improve their health, provide stability in their lives, and strengthen bonds in their communities. We host sessions for hours.
The speaker series, offered through PSA 2, Area Agency on Aging, will be held Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. and will feature a presentation by Krista Sisler on advance planning.
Trick or Treating in Clark County
Clark State University will host a trick-or-treat event for local residents on Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m., with university staff guiding guests through campus buildings and offering a traditional trick-or-treat event. Try treats, crafts, and other activities.
Most of the activities take place indoors, but outdoor spaces are also used depending on the weather. Participants will have the opportunity to meet university students, staff, faculty, and other community partners. The Springfield Promise Neighborhood offers family-friendly activities such as “Kindness Rock,” free children’s books, and information about upcoming events and activities for families.
This free event begins at the TLC Building on the main campus, 570 E. Leffel Lane. Families can park in the main parking lot on the southwest side of campus, just off Leffel Lane. We also have helpers stationed in the parking lot for those who need additional assistance.
west liberty halloween
West Liberty’s 2nd Annual Halloween Spooktacular will be held Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.
There will be pumpkin painting and carving, face painting, two inflatables, spooky tunes by DJ Skelly, a toddler area, food trucks, 200 free hot dogs, cotton candy, games and more.
