LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University swimming team made a strong showing in its 2023-24 home debut in double-double matches against Valparaiso and Eastern Illinois on Saturday at the Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center, leading the way in 22 events. He won gold medals in 16 events.

The Valpo swimming women’s team earned its second dual meet win of the season Saturday when the Beacon men’s and women’s teams defeated Eastern Illinois University against the Panthers and Bellarmine in Louisville, Kentucky.

- First year students on the girls side Sophie Schoch (Medina, Ohio/Medina) took the lead, trailing Valpo in second place. Schoch placed second in the 200m free with a time of 2:03.38, and second in the back 100m with a time of 1:01.25.
- new student Roxanne Adams (Aguadilla, Puerto Rico/Homeschooled) finished in 1:10.31 and placed second in the 100 chest.
- Schoch was one of two Beacon girls to lead the team in multiple sports as a freshman. Olivia Tressler (Las Vegas, NV/Desert Oasis) was similar. Tressler took third in the 400 IM, finishing in 4:52.34, and matched Valpo’s pace in the 500 free with a time of 5:32.39.
- Valpo defeated Eastern Illinois, 107-62, but lost to host Bellarmine, 110-59.
- On the boys side, two Beacons won the individual events. 2nd grade jackson ostman (Aurora, IL/Marmion Academy) took first place in the 400 IM by hitting the wall in 4:11.58, then took second in the 100M with a time of 54.15.
- junior Brendan Stangeland (West Fargo, North Dakota/Cheyenne) won first place in the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.25.
- 2nd grade anthony martin (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) paced Valpo in two swims with Austman, leading the Beacon Pack in both the 200 free (1:48.12) and 100 free (49.33).
- Only against Bellarmine, the boys team lost 141-28 in the final.

Valpo returns home for its second home tournament of the season next weekend as the Beacons welcome Green Bay to the Valparaiso Aquatic Center on Saturday, Oct. 28.The first swim is scheduled for 2 p.m.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Eastern Illinois women’s swim team finished off three meets in Bellarmine Saturday afternoon with four first-place finishes. This was their last competition before returning to Padovan Pool next weekend.
camryn lewis, autumn grainerand colin stein art Each won a gold medal at the competition. Lewis won the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.42 seconds, and Grinter took first place in the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.58 seconds.
Meanwhile, Staniart took first place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.98 seconds.
Eastern earned its fourth win of the tournament in the 400-meter free relay with the Panthers’ four-person team’s combined time of 3 minutes, 44.55 seconds.
EIU also earned second place twice. autumn grainer He secured second place in the 50m freestyle with a time of 24.66 seconds. olivia viere He won the silver medal in the 100 fly with a time of 1:00.07.
EIU will host its first home meet of the season next week, taking on Quincy in a double. The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, October 28 at 1 pm at Padvanpur.
