NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. (WFLA) — A hole remains blocked in a Pasco County Walmart Supercenter parking lot after it opened over the weekend.
A caller reported the hole in a public 911 call Saturday afternoon. “There’s a sinkhole in the Walmart parking lot. We need people to move their cars, but we don’t want anyone to get hurt moving their cars around the sinkhole,” the caller said. I can hear you talking to the dispatcher.
The hole opened Saturday afternoon in the Walmart parking lot at the corner of State Route 54 and Little Road in New Port Richey.
The 911 caller also told the dispatcher, “The sinkhole formed after a car passed over the parking lot.” Those guys are safe, but right behind other cars. ”
Officials estimate the hole is 4 feet wide and 20 feet deep.
No shoppers were injured, and Pasco County Emergency Management said there was no danger to the public.
Because it’s on private property, Emergency Management said Walmart is handling the investigation.
A Walmart Media Relations spokesperson emailed 8 On Your Side the following statement: We will work with our engineering team to perform the repair. The store is still open and there are other areas available for parking. ”
“It’s pretty scary. My son works here and you know I’m more concerned. I hope they can fix that part and there are no other problems. I hope so,” shopper Sherry Buges said Monday afternoon.
“I hope it’s a broken pipe or something,” said shopper Gary Rivard.
