As Halloween approaches, the city of Glendale is ramping up the spooky atmosphere with events for kids and adults alike to properly celebrate this popular holiday.
First, the city hosts its annual Halloween community event every Friday, October 27th at the Foothills Recreation and Aquatic Center.
From 6 to 9 p.m. that day, event attendees can participate in a variety of contests, including a costume walk, carnival games, face painting, balloon animal creation, inflatable slides, and music provided by a DJ.
“This family-friendly event is a safe alternative to the traditional trick-or-treating door-to-door experience,” said Susie Cummings, Recreation Coordinator for the City of Glendale. “Our team is getting spookier and spookier, and we’d like to welcome you to our annual Halloween event.”
The event is open to the public, but registration is encouraged. Admission is $4 for children, but free for parents.
Next, the city will partner with comic bookstore Drawn to Comics in downtown Glendale to bring back its annual Halloween Comic Fest.
Activities for all ages will be held inside the Velma Teague Library and outside at Murphy Park from 5 to 8 p.m. It will also be held inside the Drawing to Comics store across the street.
Local artists, carefully selected vendors, crafts, games, cosplay, and of course free comics will also be on site. Comics are available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
“The Velma Teague Library is pleased to partner with Drone to Comics again this year to bring this celebration to downtown Glendale,” said Velma Teague Library Managing Librarian Greg Kinder.
In addition, attendees will be able to watch live lightsaber combat choreographed by Syndicate Saber United and a medieval combat demonstration by the Kingdom of Umbria outside the Library at Murphy Park. “Super Smash Bros.” has a Halloween theme. A video game tournament hosted by the Umbrella Corporation Arizona Hive is also open to anyone interested in participating at the event.
Everyone is welcome to wear their own costumes at the event.
“We’re so excited to be working with libraries again to bring you all the free comics, amazing artists, cosplay, entertainment, and more,” said Ken Brown, owner of Drawn to Comic. “We can’t wait for you to join us on October 28th.”
