Vicenza, Italy – Elena Esposito knows a thing or two about news, including fake news. Administrative Support Assistant at the Italian Logistics Preparation Center – Recently, she was selected as LRC Italy Employee of the Quarter (Junior Grade) for the fourth quarter of the fiscal year 2023 – to pursue a Master’s Degree I wrote a university thesis on information warfare and its methods. Management of information space influenced the Ukraine war.
“This is the manipulation of the media. It includes not only the mainstream media, but also information on social networks and between social media users,” says the master’s degree in translation and interpreting from the CIELS University of Linguistics and Mediation in Padova, Italy. said Esposito. July 2022.
Esposito has made it his mission to find ways to incorporate his degree and passion for languages into his profession, whether it be working with LRC Italia or volunteering with other Army organizations and events in Vicenza.
For example, the Italian local civil servant and lifelong resident of Vicenza volunteered as a personal interpreter for the mayors of the province of Vicenza who were invited as guests to the change of command ceremony at a U.S. Army garrison in Italy this summer.
She also volunteered as an interpreter at the Taste of Vicenza community event held a few months ago. At the event, mayors from across the state were invited to join Caselma Ederle, which carried local food and locally produced wine, and met with U.S. community members and leaders from USAG Italy. Other Army organizations and units.
“I would do anything for this community, really,” Esposito said. She was influenced by Vicenza’s Army community from an early age through her aunt, her older sister, and her parents to respect and admire American life and culture. general.
“At one point in my life, when I was a teenager, both my parents worked on the base. And my aunt always had a passion for foreign languages, especially American English. It sparked my passion for languages. And I grew up on American movies and American music. My sister is older than me, so I listened to American pop-punk like Green Day and Blink-182. I grew up listening to it,” Esposito said.
“Personally, I feel very fortunate to be able to work for the U.S. Army and LRC Italy. I truly love my job and everything about it,” Esposito said. He started working at the LRC Italia Driver’s License Examination and Training Center in September 2021, then worked at the USAG Italy Housing Office for several months, and then returned to LRC Italia for about a year. He was appointed as administrative support assistant and director in the planning and operations department.
Esposito, 28, said many young people in his home country are suffering from Italy’s current employment crisis. She also said there is a clear difference between the nepotism system common in Italy and the meritocracy system used by the Army.
In a meritocracy, previous work and level of performance are taken into account when consideration is given to promotions and advancement to higher-level positions, but here in Italy young people are not given much of that. Esposito said. Here, nepotism is more common, giving relatives and close friends advantages in promotions and career opportunities based solely on privilege.
“But the base system is very much based on capability,” she said. “I have often seen situations like this with my colleagues, where they are often recognized for their efforts and accomplishments. This system increases motivation and creates healthy competition, so I think it’s really working.”
LRC Italia’s Employee of the Quarter and Employee of the Year programs are a great example, and she said she was thrilled when it was announced that Esposito would be recognized as one of the program’s newest selections. .
“I was so excited and happy and grateful,” Esposito said. “I would like to thank my colleagues and team as well as my leadership for recognizing me. Without the support of my team, this employee’s quarterly title would not have been possible.”
And going back to Esposito’s thesis about how information space management has influenced recent wars, the support she receives from her team is not fake news. That’s the truth, she said.
