MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Mobile County Health Department will be hosting several special events throughout the month.
Approximately 264,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer and 42,000 women die from breast cancer each year, according to a news release from MCHD.
Screenings will occur daily at all Family Health locations, but MCHD will host a “special celebration” on October 25, October 26, and October 27.
The commemorative ceremony will be held at the following locations:
October 25th
- North Mobile Health Center
October 26th
- Downtown Health Center
- Women’s health center
- Southwest Mobile Health Center
- Dauphin Island Parkway Health Center
- Citronelle Health Center
- Semmes Health Center
October 27th
- Thomas Sullivan Community Center Mobile Medical Unit II
The Alabama Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program provides free breast and cervical cancer screenings to women who meet certain guidelines. Family Health has been part of the program for several years.
Free services include:
- pelvic examination
- pap smear
- clinical breast examination
- mammogram
- Diagnostic services (ultrasound, colposcopy, biopsy, etc.)
