KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI — The Kalamazoo Walmart Supercenter located at 501 N. Ninth Street is ready to unveil new features after renovations.
Walmart officials held a ceremonial ribbon cutting in front of the store on Friday, October 20th. The ceremony recognized several employees who have worked at the Oshtemo Township Walmart since the store opened in 2004.
“For nearly 20 years, we have proudly served the residents of Kalamazoo, so in addition to celebrating all the improvements made to our store, we are proud to invite community members to join us. It’s special,” said store manager Jason Yeager. “Not only will this upgrade give our customers a fresh new look, we believe the innovation will enhance their overall shopping experience.”
Updates and expansions throughout the store include a new grab-and-go grocery section, vision center and private rooms for nursing mothers. Other improvements include:
- More shopping cart
- Addition of self-checkout lanes and manned cash registers
- New Walmart+ lanes for members
- More stalls for grocery pickup and delivery
- Digital touchpoints via QR codes and screens to communicate the products and services Walmart offers online.
- Expanding pharmacy with new dedicated laboratory for pharmacist consultation and services
- The electronics department has been relocated and demo products have been increased and updated.
- Updated deli department to provide fresh, hot meals
- Expanded beer and wine selection and cooler section
- modern renovated toilet
Shoppers will also notice murals in the renovated Walmart that reflect Kalamazoo culture and local landmarks.
The mural is part of Walmart’s Community Mural Program, which celebrates communities across the United States, according to a press release.
Mr. Yeager and his staff also presented $7,850 in grants to several Kalamazoo-area nonprofit organizations at the event.
