CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WABY) — A Virginia mother says a cell phone app saved her baby’s life.
Alyssa Emrock said of her baby: Araton.
Alyssa credits all of her precious moments to a free app on her phone.
“What I used was count the kick I apply it religiously,” she said.
This app is designed to prevent stillbirth.
“21,000 babies are lost to stillbirth each year in the United States, and just over 500 are lost in Virginia,” said Dr. Cynthia Romer, director of the center. EVMS Block Community and Global Health Institute.
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation We recently partnered with a program in Virginia; CHIP in South Hampton Roadsis a home visiting program for low-income, high-risk families that has been available since March.
Trish O’Brien, president and CEO of CHIP, said nurses in the WAVY program are introducing the app to women in their third trimester, teaching them how to count and record their kicks, and when to call their doctor. He said he was teaching.
“We serve some very rural counties in Virginia. It’s a long drive to get to the hospital from where some of our family members live. So this is a very rural county in Virginia. “It’s a little bit of a relief for us,” O’Brien said.
Dr. Romeo said this is especially helpful for first-time mothers, those who have had a previous miscarriage, or those who are in a high-risk pregnancy.
“It allows the mother to feel more connected to her baby during pregnancy and reduces any anxiety that may arise,” Romero says.
Emlock noticed a change in her baby’s kicking pattern and immediately called for help.
Doctors found Ms Allanton was at risk of giving birth within 24 hours.
“Thankfully, we rescued him and he is completely fine now,” she said.
After giving birth, it was discovered that the baby’s umbilical cord was short and there was a risk of stillbirth.
