GRAFTON, W.Va. (WDTV) – The suspect in the Memorial Day shooting at a Walmart in Grafton has been charged.
About five months ago, police said, William Jenkins fired three shots at another man inside the store, hitting him once in the leg and once in the hand.
Jenkins then drove away from the scene and led officers on a chase to the Marion County line.
As officers approached, the man confronted them and pointed the gun at himself, officials said. The man was treated for his injuries at a local hospital.
At Monday’s grand jury meeting, Jenkins was charged with attempted murder, wanton endangerment with a firearm, use or presentation of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and fleeing with reckless indifference.
Taylor County Prosecuting Attorney John Board credits law enforcement for their quick response to the situation.
“Law enforcement in this county has done a great job,” Bode said. “We had the city police, the sheriff’s department, the state police all respond, and it was amazing. You don’t want this to happen, but let me tell you, our laws. The enforcement agencies have done a great job.”
Board said a trial date likely won’t be set until next year.
