FARGO — Fargo police are urging people to avoid an area including a Walmart on the city's south side after a reported bomb threat.
According to dispatch records, officers responded to the Walmart at 3757 55th Ave. S. on Thursday, Aug. 29, just after 12:30 p.m. on a report of a bomb threat. The Fargo Police Department has not confirmed whether a bomb threat was made.
Police, in social media posts, urged the public to avoid the areas from 38th Street South to Interstate 29 and from 52nd Street South to 60th Street South until further notice.
The scene was still chaotic as of 2:30 p.m., and Forum reporters at the scene saw police blocking the entrance to the Walmart parking lot, with Walmart employees gathered in the southwest corner of the parking lot and only a few vehicles remaining in the store.
“Officers are actively investigating the incident in the area,” police said in a statement to The Forum. “At this time, we have no further information. More details will be released as they become available.”
Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under the byline “Staff.” The byline is often used when rewriting basic breaking news that comes from an official source and requires little or no reporting, such as a city press release about a road closure. The byline may also be used when a news story has multiple contributors or when the story is created by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. When we use outside sources, this is noted in the story.
