The 35th annual Totah Festival kicks off on Friday, Aug. 30. The festival is free to the public who would like to watch or purchase items for sale at the event. The festival will be held at the Farmington Civic Center, 200 W. Arrington St. The festival will include a juried art show and poster contest, a rug auction, indoor and outdoor Indian markets, a powwow and a 5K run/walk held in Berg Park.
The event on Friday, August 30th will run from 8am to 7pm and will also feature a juried art show competition. Pre-registration and registration for confirmed participants will be open from noon to 4:30pm. An artists' opening reception will be held from 5pm to 7pm, with ribbons and cash prizes awarded for first, second and third place in 16 categories, including jewelry, painting, weaving, ceramics, wood carving, digital art, photography, junior artists, sculpture, sand art, beadwork and textile wearable art.
The Totah Festival events on Saturday, August 31, will include an authentic Navajo rug auction, an Indian market and a powwow. The festival runs from 10 am to 7 pm. Rugs for auction will be available to view from 9 am to noon. The rug auction begins at 1 pm in the Civic Center Auditorium. Bring lawn chairs or canopies for shade while watching the powwow. Food trucks will also be on site.
The Totah Run the River 5K run/walk will be held at Berg Park on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 8 a.m. Registration for the race can be done online at https://tinyurl.com/yc32tea2 , in the Civic Center lobby on Saturday, Aug. 31, or at the park on race day.
Organizers will present handmade medals made by Kimberly Benally to the top first, second and third place runners in the men's and women's all-around divisions.
