Lake County Labor Day Holiday
All Lake County Circuit Court Clerk and Auditor offices will be closed Sept. 2 in observance of Labor Day. The offices that will be closed are the courthouse at 550 W. Main St., the records storage facility at 313 S. Bloxham Ave. and the clerk's and county finance office at 315 W. Main St. in Tavares.
The closures also include the South Lake branch (290 Citrus Tower Blvd., Suite 116, Clermont) and the North Lake branch (902 Avenida Central, The Villages).
The office will reopen with regular business hours on Tuesday.

— City of Leesburg offices and facilities will also be closed Sept. 2, including City Hall (501 W. Meadow St.), the City Hall Service Center (204 N. Fifth St.) and the Leesburg Public Library (100 E. Main St.).
Residential and commercial solid waste that is scheduled to be collected regularly every Monday will instead be collected on September 5th.
All city offices and facilities will reopen with normal business hours on Tuesday.

Clean Up Eustis hosts Labor Day event
CleanUp Eustis will celebrate the anniversary with a Labor Day cleanup starting with breakfast at 8 a.m. Sept. 2 at That Place (925 N. Bay St.), followed by trash pickup at 9 a.m. at Ferran Park (250 Ferran Park Drive).
The cleanup route will be from the park to the end of the boardwalk at the City Community Center, 601 Northshore Drive. The City will be installing additional trash cans. Larger trash cans can be left in piles for city crews to pick up.
Volunteers with kayaks or other small watercraft are needed to help clean up the beach. Volunteers are asked to bring gloves and trash nets to pick up trash, although the group will have spares available.

The library will hold a monthly smoking cessation program.
at the W.T. Brand Public Library, 1995 N. Donnelly St. in Mount Dora. A free monthly smoking cessation program hosted by the Lake County, Florida Health Department will be held in the library's Simpson Farmhouse on Aug. 30 from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
Five classes will be provided with free nicotine replacement patches, gum or lozenges while supplies last and if medically appropriate. Registration is required. Call 877-252-6094.

“PAWS to Read” health event at Eustis Library
The following programs are scheduled at Eustis Memorial Library, 120 N. Center St.:
— The volunteer-led “Get Healthy with Homeopathy” group will meet from 4:30-6 p.m. Sept. 3 to discuss and learn about homeopathy, an alternative approach to health and wellness. The public is welcome to attend. No registration is required.
— The “PAWS to Read” program, which involves reading to trained therapy dogs to build self-confidence and improve reading skills in a safe, non-judgmental environment, will be held Sept. 3 and 17 from 5 to 6 p.m.
Each reading will be 15 minutes long and must be signed up for in advance at the Youth Services Desk.
— Zines 4 Teens is a creative writing and art-focused club where teens can create their own zines (personalized DIY magazines) with stories, poetry and artwork. The group meets Sept. 3 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The show will feature celestial lore and Native American legends.
Mike Ryan, retired planetarium director for Lake County Schools, will present the Native American Astronomy Legends program, which will include retellings of stories about the stars, constellations and the origins of the Earth as told by chiefs of various tribes, on Sept. 7 at 1:30 p.m. at Trout Lake Nature Center, 520 E. County Road 44, Eustis.
Admission to the park is $5 per vehicle, but Trout Lake members can enter for free.

BBQ fundraiser for family of fallen deputy sheriff
Mount Dora Masonic Lodge 238 will host a barbecue fundraiser for the family of fallen Master Deputy Bradley Link on Sept. 8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the lodge (535 N. Donnelly St.).
Link was killed on August 2nd while responding to a call of a domestic dispute. Meals include chicken or pork, beans, coleslaw and a drink. Admission is $15. The public is welcome to attend.

Patriots Day Breakfast at the Venetian Center
Phil Stone, who has covered college, NFL, MLB, Olympic and golf games for NBC for more than 30 years, will speak at the Patriots Day Prayer Breakfast at 7 a.m. Sept. 11 at the Venetian Center, 1 Dodger Circle in Leesburg.
The breakfast honors police, fire and emergency medical rescue personnel in memory of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Admission is $20 per person.

Brewery hosts 9/11 memorial event
Great Chicago Fire Brewery will host its annual 9/11 Remembrance Event on September 11th from 5-6pm at the Fire/Police Memorial at the corner of 3rd and Magnolia Streets in Leesburg.
Our guest speaker will be Dr. Anna Marie Kwastiak, station chief of Lakefront TV, who was a medical reporter for ABC News Baltimore at the time of the attacks and was assigned to cover the Pentagon in the aftermath of the attacks. She will share her experience.

A concert celebrating America
The Graceway Church Celebration Choir, along with members of several other choirs, including from Mount Dora First Presbyterian Church, will present a concert celebrating America, “I Believe in America,” at 6 p.m., Sept. 15, at the church, located at the corner of Radio Road and Morningside Drive in Leesburg.
Under the direction of Ali Dixon, the choir will perform songs such as “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “If My People” and “This Land Is Your Land.”
The joint Graceway and First Presbyterian handbell choir will perform “Star-Spangled Spectacular” under the direction of Dr. Randall Freeling.
Admission is free and open to the public, a voluntary donation will be accepted, and a pie party will follow the concert in the church's Family Life Center.

Animal League's “Puttin' Fore Paws” Tournament Seeks Sponsors
The Animal League is hosting its ninth annual Putting for Paws Golf Tournament on Sept. 21 at Green Valley Country Club in Clermont and is seeking sponsors for the fundraiser that will benefit the organization's efforts to rehabilitate and find new homes for neglected and abused cats and dogs.

Father and daughter dancing disco party
The City of Lady Lake will host a Father-Daughter Dance Disco Party from 6 to 8 p.m., Sept. 7, at the Community Center, 237 W. Guava St. The event will include dancing and dinner, and attendees are encouraged to don their best disco outfits for a chance to win a costume contest and take part in a selfie challenge with prizes.

Women's choir recruits new members
The Lake County Women's Choir, which recently celebrated its 40th anniversary, will welcome new members and begin practicing for its upcoming concert season at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 5 at Graceway Church, located at the corner of Radio Road and Morningside Drive in Leesburg.
The choir performs multiple Christmas concerts each year as well as a spring concert series. Practices are held on Thursdays.
