Miami — The field of dreams has become a reality for students at Pinecrest Elementary School.
It's all thanks to the Tua Foundation and teacher Mary Crippen, who has inspired her students to learn through their love of the Miami Dolphins.
Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa's family received a warm welcome at the grand opening of the field his foundation made possible.
The students showed their appreciation with a full student concert.
“They were lined up on the black border and just staring at it because they wanted to touch it and they were excited to get on the field!” Crippen said.
The field has been in the works since April, when Crippen caused a social media stir by using Dolphins stats in the classroom.
Now that they are eligible to play, Tua's wife, Ana Tagovailoa, has one hope as they play.
“Support your teammates, encourage each other, and remember that by serving and supporting each other, you're not only having fun, you're also stepping into a path of leadership and making a difference,” Anna says.
This all started in the classroom and with playing soccer being part of her daily curriculum, it was only natural that Tua's family was able to visit where it all began.
What started as a fun way to teach kids has transformed into a new soccer field.
Starting Thursday, the children will be here running and practicing their touchdown dance.
